We Need Your Help!
God has greatly blessed SVC, and with that blessing comes need as well! Now that we are going to be having two services each Sunday, we are in need of more Children’s Ministry workers. Specifically, we are in need of 4 toddler classroom volunteers and 4 junior high/high school Children’s Church volunteers. This is a fantastic way to get involved and serve in a ministry with eternal implications. Please contact Amy or Jenn if you would like to bless our church in this way!
Just For Parents!
Come join us for our first event of 2012!
We invite all of our parents on January 20th, from 7:00-9:00 PM for a special “Parents’ Date Night” at the Reifel’s house. Enjoy the fellowship and conversation of other church families as we discuss a segment of “Don’t Waste Your Sports.” We will also be hearing from some seasoned parents who have walked this path before us! Desserts and beverages will be provided.
We can’t wait to see you there!
A Call To Resolve
As the year 2011 draws to a close and January 1st, 2012 inches closer on new calendars, many people begin to feel that pull of making a New Year’s resolution.
Or two.
Or eight.
Apparently a third of all New Year’s well-intended goals are abandoned before the end of January, with 80% left unfulfilled by the end of the year. It’s a true and disheartening fact that even with good intentions, many people will enter February having tossed in the towel on what they resolved to change in 2012. And while some of those resolutions weren’t that big of a deal in the first place, many are… and the lack of change brings heartache and disappointment.
As we look to this new year, we challenge our families of SVC to two things. First, to start (or restart or continue, as the case may be), a purposeful and focused time of family worship with your children. It will be difficult at times and certainly easier to neglect as schedules fill and responsibilities clamor for your attention, but the importance and necessity of this matter is one of life and death. The home is the first place of education for children. Three hours of Sunday School and church each week is not enough. Even if your child attends a Christian private school, the hours spent at home are where they see your faith on display. May it not be said that our children received instruction at church and school, but not at home! The repercussions of such hypocrisy are severe. Second, we challenge you to not be part of the 80%. Our prayer is that your resolve to worship multiple times each week with your family will be a habit that only strengthens and grows throughout 2012!
But where to start?
Depending upon the ages of your children, there are many resources available to help you in your family worship times. Two that SVC recommends are The Big Picture Story Bible (for young children), and Training Hearts, Teaching Minds (for older children). There are also others recommended on this blog, which you may find fit your family as well!
May your hearts and minds be lifted up in praise to His Name in 2012. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Soli Deo Gloria!!
Trunk Or Treat
Our Jerusalem Ministries team put together a fun-filled event this Halloween: Trunk Or Treat! Children from all over our church neighborhood were invited to participate. Five colored cars (gold, red, black, white and green) represented the Wordless Book, and each told an important part of the gospel (and offered candy). At the end of the line-up, children were given a bracelet or zipper-pull to help them remember what they had learned. Then, they were invited to try their hands at a beanbag toss, basketball and bounce-house. Hot cocoa, apple cider, popcorn and a blazing fire kept everyone warm and cozy on this celebrated Harvest evening! Special thanks to Karen Taylor for these great photos!
Autumn Apple Press
This October, SVCM spent a lovely afternoon pressing hundreds of pounds of honeycrisp apples into apple cider, eating homemade soups and making s’mores! The finished product was fantastic and everyone had a blast. Special thanks to Heather Phillips for taking these wonderful pictures!
